How we research, audit, and maintain source-backed building department data across all 50 US states.

Independent Research Commitment

AllPermitSearch operates as an independent public information index. We do not manufacture requirements, simulate municipal formulas as universal facts, or publish permit details without explicit primary government citations.

1. Primary Source Hierarchy

Every published record on AllPermitSearch must satisfy our strict source hierarchy:

  • Tier 1 (Primary Government Domains): Official `.gov`, `.us`, `.org`, or verified municipal government portals operating under city or county authority.
  • Tier 2 (Adopted Municipal Codes): Published Municode, eCode360, American Legal Publishing, or official municipal clerk registers.
  • Tier 3 (State Licensing & Board Databases): Official state occupational licensing registers for trade contractor verification.

2. Verification Cadence & Link Health

Municipal digital portals frequently migrate between third-party software systems (e.g., Accela, Tyler Technologies, Citizenserve). We run automated HTTP status audits to verify link health. When an agency URL returns a 404 or persistent server error, the link is flagged for human review or gracefully replaced with fallback contact instructions.

3. Handling Data Gaps & Disclaimers

When a local jurisdiction does not publish explicit fee schedules or online permit status tools, we state: "The agency does not publish this information online." We never fill data gaps with national averages presented as local facts.
